Specialization Area Designation – Renewal and Recertification
CTRSs who hold specialization in one of the designated areas are required to complete annual maintenance and recertification for both their CTRS certification and specialization. The annual maintenance application and fee must be submitted for each year of the five year certification cycle. Recertification of the specialization is required every five (5) years and must be submitted at the scheduled time of the CTRS Recertification.
CTRS Specialization Area Designation – Annual Maintenance Renewal
Each year of the five year certification cycle, each CTRS must submit a fee to maintain CTRS certification and specialization area designation by the expiration date.
Application & Fees
The fee for the CTRS Specialization Area Designation Annual Maintenance is $20.00.
This fee must be submitted along with the CTRS Annual Maintenance fee of $80.00.
The total Annual Maintenance fee is $100.
CTRS Specialization Area Designation – Recertification
The recertification of the CTRS specialization area designation is required every five (5) years and must be submitted at the scheduled time of the CTRS Recertification. This requirement applies to all CTRSs who possess the specialization area designation.
Continuing education obtained during the five (5) year certification cycle can be applied to both the CTRS and specialization area designation if the documentation was earned within the previous five-year certification cycle and relates directly to the NCTRC Job Analysis and designated specialization areas.
Application & Fees
Applications may be submitted at the time of recertification only. If approved, both the CTRS credential and specialization area designation will be valid for the next five-year recertification cycle.
The fee for recertifying the specialization area is $25.00. Additional fees may be required depending upon individual circumstances.

The required fees must accompany each NCTRC application or the application will be returned. All fees must be in U.S. dollars. If an individual resides outside of the U.S., the fees must be sent by credit card, money order or cashier’s check in U.S. dollars made payable to NCTRC. All certification review fees paid to NCTRC are non-refundable, regardless of review decision or withdrawal of the application during the review process.
