NCTRC Welcomes Two New Board Members

As a result of the recently conducted Board election, NCTRC is proud to announce the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors. Dr. Teresa Beck, CTRS and Ms. Suzanne Melcher, CTRS will officially join the NCTRC Board in April 2009 and will each serve a three-year term from 2009-2012.

Teresa M. Beck, PhD., CTRS resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Teresa earned her BS degree in Recreation Administration with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation from Indiana University, a MS in Leisure Services with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation from Florida State University and her PhD in Higher Education Administration with a minor in Leisure Studies from the University of North Texas. She is currently Associate Professor and Director of Therapeutic Recreation and Health Professions Programs as well as the Faculty Director for Freshman Orientation at Grand Valley State University. More

Suzanne Melcher, MA, LRT /CTRS, LBMT resides in Clemmons, North Carolina. Suzanne earned her BS in Recreation and Leisure Services with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation from Radford University and her Master of Arts and Liberal Studies from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. She also has a Certificate in Therapeutic Massage from Forsyth Technical Community College. More

May Recertification Exam Option

NCTRC would like to remind you that if you are coming to the end of your five year recertification cycle you can take the NCTRC exam to meet the requirements for recertification. The May 2009 exam is the only exam one can take to meet the May cycle Recertification requirements. The registration deadline for the May 2009 exam is February 1, 2009. Visit the NCTRC website www.nctrc.org to access the exam registration form. From the home page, click on “exam” or use your log-in information to access the form. There are two options for submission. You can fill out the registration form online and submit it with a credit card payment or print off the registration form, fill it out, and mail it directly to NCTRC with a check or credit card number. The dates for the May 2009 exam are May 4-8, 2009.

 

Did you know ...

  • You can purchase CTRS mailing labels from NCTRC to advertise information related to therapeutic recreation education and professional continuing education opportunities. Mailing labels are also available for sponsored research projects that address specific areas of therapeutic recreation practice and professional development.
  • You can meet the work experience component for NCTRC recertification by completing a minimum of 480 hours serving on professional boards related to Therapeutic Recreation.
  • You can receive continuing education hours by being a guest lecturer at a college or university and presenting a formal presentation to an undergraduate or graduate class on a topic related to the NCTRC National Job Analysis Knowledge Areas. The presentation must be a minimum of 60 minutes.
